Vic’s Craft Ice Cream finally has its own permanent bricks and mortar spot, located in Barrington in the spot that used to be Medici Gelato. After doing popups since 2017 under the name Fountain and Co., and launching an ice cream window that’s still operating out of Stock Culinary Goods on Hope Street in Providence, ice cream fans can now track down Victoria Young’s artisanal ice cream in the East Bay. The adorable little shop is located in a butter yellow Victorian house with a farmer’s porch on Maple Avenue, which is just a hop, skip and a jump from the East Bay Bike Path and down the road from the Barrington Public Library (and the amazing playground next door).

Vic’s is open Thursdays and Fridays from 4 to 9 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 9 p.m. A soft opening is period of time when a restaurant or shop first opens and is still working out some of the kinks of what it takes to operate. “Pretty please (with a cherry on top) understand that we won’t be perfect right away,” says Vic’s soft opening Facebook page. “I encourage you to share feedback directly with me or via your emailed receipt!”

Young started out in the culinary industry as a pastry intern at Noma in Copenhagen at age twenty-five, then finished her classical pastry training at Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island. The goal was always to open a storefront, but she began by doing popups at shops around town, ultimately deciding to work with Jan Faust Dane at Stock Culinary Goods to install a seasonal ice cream window at her shop. “The popup route is great way to prove the concept, but it’s not a sustainable route to make a living,” Young said recently at an event involving women business owners. “It’s been a journey of exploring options for a storefront.”

And now the permanent spot is open. We stopped by last week to check out a special friends and family event. The ice cream menu included flavors like vanilla with rainbow sprinkles, cherry, strawberry swirl, white chocolate lavender, blueberry sorbet, rainbow sherbet and vegan matcha coconut and dark chocolate truffle. Victoria tops each ice cream cup or waffle cone with her signature gummy cherries to symbolize the cherry on top of a sundae. You can also add fun toppings like hot fudge, fancy candy pearls, toasted coconut and Nilla wafer crunch.

So, head to Barrington for a ride on the bike path or a visit to the playground, and Vic’s Craft Ice Cream can be the cherry on top of your day.
