The 25th Annual Rhode Island Design Awards
Pop open the bubbly! Time to celebrate our favorites over the years.
Inside Out
The project: A greenhouse/guesthouse combo in Newport.
What the judges liked in 2016: Modern, well-thought out details including pocket doors and charred cypress siding that nevertheless complement the main shingle house built in 1882.
Why we like it now: The contrast of the light stone exterior with dark wood and huge doors that allow you to be inside and outside at the same time. With a guest house you don’t always feel you have privacy but that’s not the case here. Our staffers were also drawn to the linear design. “There’s a lot of geometry, which is an unexpected pairing with shingle-style.”
