The 25th Annual Rhode Island Design Awards
Pop open the bubbly! Time to celebrate our favorites over the years.
The project: Outbuildings that are part of a suburban property and in need of a cohesive design.
What the judges liked in 2017: Sometimes thinking outside the box is the most successful approach, and this project did just that.
Why we like it now: Who can resist a tree house? “It’s fun and playful but functional and beautiful,” said one of our staffers. The architect’s goal was to unite the ancillary buildings, including a pool cabana and guest house with roof deck and crow’s nest, neatly tucked behind a 1930s Barrington manor. The effect translates as permanent vacation, which during the pandemic must be wonderful, noted another. “It’s like a mini-resort.”
