Weatherlow Farms is Hosting Picnic Dinners with Live Music
The livestock and flower farm invites the public to special events this summer to enjoy the grounds.
Just a short drive away from Providence lies Weatherlow Farms, an idyllic environment in Westport, Massachusetts, with grass-fed and pasture-raised cows, free-range chickens, sheep and more. It also grows fields and greenhouses full of fresh flowers for weddings and events. The farm supplies some major Rhode Island restaurants (New Rivers and Bayberry Beer Hall) with beef, poultry, lamb and eggs, and it also has a farm stand that sells meat, eggs and fresh cut flowers to the public alongside prepared foods created by its on-site chef, Emily Whipple.
This summer, Weatherlow Farms is again welcoming the public to a series of events that showcase the farm, flower fields and pastures in all their glory. Several Picnic Dinners will be held with live music and a menu that includes farm-raised proteins, locally sourced sides and a scratchmade dessert. The family-friendly events take place on the green in front of a beautiful stone barn. A picnic on Thurs., Aug. 11 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. features local musician and painter Butch McCarthy and the Gentlemen of Leisure, followed by another picnic on Thurs., Aug. 25, featuring Hollow Turtle, a bluegrass, folk and Americana band based out of Warren.
Weatherlow Farms is also the host of the 2022 Westport Film Series, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary of film screenings. The films are free to the public, thanks to the Westport Cultural Council through a grant from the Helen Ellis Foundation. The farm opens at 6 p.m. for guests to enjoy the grounds and enjoy light fare with beer and wine available for purchase. The next screening is Woods, Sails, Dreams on Wed., Aug 17 at 7 p.m. The films are followed by question-and-answer sessions with a filmmaker, film participants or the subject of the film.
These events are a great opportunity for visitors to see the farm while learning about its environmentally sustainable and socially responsible practices, while enjoying the grounds. The farm also hosts private events and weddings.
