As the threat of coronavirus spreads, Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo demands that people stay home and practice social distancing. In the face of the crisis, all restaurants were ordered to close for dine-in service, and now can only offer takeout and delivery. Local food and drink businesses are feeling the pinch because they make their livelihood on the public’s participation, so it’s a really unfortunate situation. They’ve had to lay off staff and are only doing about 5 to 10 percent of the business they usually do.

Bakeries, restaurants and breweries are taking careful precautions by wearing masks (you need to wear one, too, when you pick up your food), providing extra sanitation, making sure no employees are sick before entering work, only offering takeout or delivery and keeping service outdoors with curbside pickup. You can order takeout from these places and have food delivered, or you can choose to buy gift cards for use at a later date to help all of these wonderful businesses stay afloat during this difficult time. Thankfully, restaurants were recently granted permission to sell wine, beer and sealed cocktails for takeout, too. Many breweries are also offering curbside can pickup.

We need to help our food community, but please do it safely (meaning, for the love of God, stay home if you are experiencing any symptoms at all).

Please see some of the options from local food and drink businesses below.
