The Garden City sweetgreen opens today.

The day finally came. Sweetgreen opened this week at Cranston’s Garden City, providing a much needed spot for healthy dining options. The restaurant is known for its plant-based menu of salads, bowls and sides stacked and layered with veggies and grains. This particular location is also sourcing some ingredients from Massachusetts farms.

For every meal sold yesterday at the Cranston location, they donated a meal to the Comprehensive Community Action Program to help combat food insecurity. The program is one of the largest community action programs in Rhode Island, providing quality health and human services to over 40,000 Rhode Islanders annually.

Sweetgreen held a ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday with the Chamber of Commerce, and guests enjoyed giveaways from Sarcastic Sweets, and sweetgreen farmers market totes were given to the first 100 customers who visited the new location. Rhode Island is the first new state sweetgreen has entered in 2023 as it continues to expand into suburban areas.

“We’re excited to be expanding our New England footprint and to provide the Cranston community with a new healthy and satisfying option,” says sweetgreen co-founder and CEO Jonathan Neman. “We were drawn to Cranston because it’s an active, thriving community where we think sweetgreen will flourish. We hope that our guests feel a deeper connection to real food every time they walk through our doors.”
