Warren’s Chomp Kitchen and Drinks Will Have a New Waterfront Home Next Year
The larger location will have an outdoor patio with water views and double the seats as the current restaurant.
Chomp Kitchen and Drinks in Warren plans to move to a new waterfront location next spring or summer. The restaurant finalized the purchase of a former storage space on Water Street in Warren that will double the seats of its current spot on Child Street.
A larger location has been on owner Sam Glynn’s mind for quite some time. “We started looking last year because we were thinking people might not be comfortable going into small restaurants after the year we had,” Glynn says. “We started kicking the tires on potential locations and that building had always been one we admired, but never really knew it to be available.”
About a year ago, Glynn was out getting coffee at Cafe Water Street and saw the “for sale” sign at 279 Water Street and began pursuing it. “It took about a year with negotiations and zoning and planning meetings,” he says. “We are finally the owners of it and going through the design right now.”
The hope is that Chomp can open the new location in the spring or summer of 2022. They are working with architect Chris Fagan of Newport for the build out that includes a large outdoor patio with water views and an outdoor bar. “Inside will be modeled with a more spacious beer hall vibe,” he says. “We are going to maximize the outdoor space that we have and create a more enjoyable experience for people having burgers on the water.”
This restaurant development will be happening alongside two new future brewery additions in Warren. The Guild’s Warren outpost will open soon (check out the Instagram @theguildwarren for updates), and Twelve Guns Brewery, currently located in Bristol, plans to move to a new 8,000-square-foot waterfront space in Warren in 2022 as part of the Warren Gateway project alongside a possible small hotel and Seven Stars Bakery location.
“There will be a lot of excitement on Water Street which has been building and building, with all of the good food that’s already here,” Glynn says. “It’s great for the town and I am glad to be a part of it.”
Chomp plans to keep the smaller Warren location on Child Street to use for catering and event operations. They are also further developing the retail side of the restaurant business. “We’re going to make a second sauce, our Hot Chicken Aioli is a riff on our Hot Chicken sauce,” Glynn says.
Right now the Chomp Burger Sauce, a savory condiment, is available for purchase at Chomp restaurants in Warren and Providence, all Dave’s Marketplace locations, Bristol and Barrington Ace Hardware stores, Stock in Providence, Tom’s Market in Warren and Johnson’s Roadside Farm Market in Swansea, Massachusetts.
“The sauces are going fantastic,” Glynn says. “It has exceeded our expectations. Now we’re trying to take it from being a product to turning it into a business.” chompri.com
