Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD) has once again been named the #1 Domestic Airport in Travel + Leisure‘s World’s Best Awards, marking the second consecutive year readers have given the airport the nation’s top ranking.
Each year, Travel + Leisure asks readers to rate airports across several categories, including access, check-in and security, restaurants and bars, shopping and overall design. The rankings are based on travelers’ firsthand experiences.
This year, readers once again praised PVD for its convenience and ease of navigation, with its smaller size being part of what makes the airport a “gem.”
“Many readers said they’ll travel farther in order to fly out of Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport and avoid the more congested big-city airports. Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport makes the extra journey easy, with direct connections to both Rhode Island and Massachusetts public transportation (MBTA Commuter Rail),” Travel + Leisure noted.
Why Travelers Keep Choosing PVD
For many travelers, PVD’s appeal comes down to convenience. The airport has built a reputation for easy highway access, a stress-free travel experience, a walkable terminal, and getting passengers from the curb to gate with ease. Those qualities have helped the airport stand out against larger, more congested airports throughout the Northeast.
Serving as a gateway to New England, PVD draws travelers from across Rhode Island, eastern Connecticut and southeastern Massachusetts, with more than 7.5 million residents living within a 90-minute drive of the airport.
While the latest award celebrates what travelers already appreciate about the airport, improvements continue throughout the terminal.
Recent investments have included expanded dining options and ongoing infrastructure projects designed to enhance the passenger experience. Airport leadership continues to prioritize improvements that support both operational needs and customer comfort.
Building on Success
PVD’s latest recognition continues a remarkable rise in the rankings over recent years. After steadily climbing into the top five (#5 in 2020, #3 in 2021, #3 in 2023, #2 in 2024), the airport claimed the top spot in 2025 for the first time before successfully defending the title this year.
Airport officials say the award reflects the efforts of employees, airline partners and vendors who work together to create a positive passenger experience.
“This recognition is an incredible honor for our airport and the State of Rhode Island,” said Iftikhar Ahmad, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, in a press release. “To be named the No. 1 Domestic Airport in back-to-back years is a testament to the dedicated work of all employees at PVD, the countless vendors we rely upon, and our airline partners.”
Ahmad also thanked travelers who casted their votes.
“We want to thank the traveling public who voted for us, especially Rhode Island travelers who consider PVD their home airport,” he said.
The back-to-back No. 1 ranking suggests those efforts are resonating with travelers, who once again placed Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport ahead of airports across the country.
As PVD continues to grow, the airport remains focused on delivering the experience that earned it the nation’s top ranking for a second straight year.
