The Steere family is excited to bring back its annual Steere Orchard Applefest featuring apple picking, free hayrides, live music, food, a farmers market and more. The event takes place on two days this Columbus Day weekend on October 9 and 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Applefest has been happening for seventeen years, but the orchard has been growing apples and peaches since the 1930s. It’s the perfect way to capture the fall spirit and hit many autumn bucket list items all in one day. There will be baked goods and food vendors including Ja Patty food truck, which will serve its signature flaky-crust dessert apple handpie made with Steere Orchard apples.

Owner of Ja Patty Alison Rosario explains how their relationship with the orchard came to be after meeting at the local farmers market. “Ja Patty has been doing this event with the Steere family since we started in 2018. We met John Steere and his family working alongside each other at the Farm Fresh farmers markets back in 2018,” Rosario says. “They invited us in 2018 to sell patties from our tent setup, and they continued to invite us as we grew into a food truck.”

All of Ja Patty’s apple pie patties contain apples from Steere Orchard, sourced through Greenville Apple. “Since Covid, the family has been working so hard to get attendance to what it was pre-Covid,” Rosario says. “I would love to see this event do well this year, and I know the community needs that too!”

Steere Orchard also hosts pick-your-own apples every day from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
