Sunny, warm days just got a whole lot closer. No, Punxsutawney Phil didn’t predict an early spring. Rather, T.F. Green just added BermudAir to its direct flight lineup.  Starting May 22, the flag carrier of Bermuda will offer nonstop service from the Warwick-based airport to L.F. Wade International Airport on Thursdays and Sundays, year-round.

“We are thrilled to welcome BermudAir to Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport,” says Iftikhar Ahmad, President and CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation (learn more about Ahmad here). “These new and exciting nonstop connections are all part of our commitment to connecting Rhode Island’s business and leisure travelers with premier destinations across the globe.”

The Embraer 175 twin-engine jets expected to carry out the flights offer seventy coach and business class seats in a two-to-two configuration (meaning no middle seats). BermudAir also plans to integrate two new, larger Embraer 190 aircraft, each equipped with ninety-six coach and business class seats in a two-to-two configuration. Travelers will be able to enjoy the airline’s signature in-flight service which includes complimentary Bermuda-sourced beverages and snacks. As an added bonus, travelers returning to the Ocean State will be screened under the U. S. Customs and Border Protection Preclearance program, means they will complete U.S. Customs and Immigration inspection before boarding the flight home.

“Bermuda and New England have always shared a special connection, and we’re thrilled to make travel between the two even more convenient,” says Adam Scott, Founder and CEO at BermudAir. “With this new nonstop route, Rhode Islanders can swap the mainland for an island escape in just a few short hours, enjoying the relaxation, adventure, and rich culture Bermuda has to offer—all with the comfort and reliability of BermudAir.”

Scott is correct in pointing out New England’s connection to the (sub)tropical paradise. Rhode Island, in particular, is home to the famous bi-annual Newport Bermuda Race. Meanwhile, the University of Rhode Island offers a Marine Biology in Bermuda study abroad program and the newly minted Rhode Island Football Club holds a pre-season exhibition tournament in Bermuda each February. The more express means of transportation between the island nation and our island-in-name is expected to further improve both leisure and business relations.

Furthermore, the new international destination bolsters TF Green’s recent designation as New England’s fastest growing hub airport (surpassed 4 million passengers last year). The airport also plans to soon welcome additional expansions; Breeze CEO David Neeleman recently stated that the Federal Aviation Administration are expected to approve and unveil new international routes by the end of March.

“The Rhode Island Airport Corporation is proud that BermudAir has chosen to expand their service at Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport” says Jonathan N. Savage, Board Chair of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation. “This new nonstop connection will allow local travelers to experience Bermuda’s vibrant island culture, while also providing Bermudians an opportunity to enjoy their own ‘Rhode Island getaway’ and enjoy all that New England has to offer.”
