Sling Cocktail Competition Puts Local Bartenders to the Test
Providence's finest bartenders will curate cocktails for the event, and guests will get the chance to sip and savor the results.
Local bartenders will be mixing it up for a cocktail competition that’s open to the public for observing and tasting. Sling Cocktail Exposition and Competition takes place on June 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Skyline at Waterplace. Organizers Matt Simmons and Lupe Aguilar are enlisting some of Providence’s finest bartenders to curate cocktails for the event, and guests will get the chance to sip and savor the results.
Simmons is a brand ambassador for liquor brands including Broken Shed Vodka and Black Infusions out of Natick, Massachusetts. He’s also a consultant and bartender for area restaurants and bars, including Mill’s Tavern, Sarto and occasionally, Ogie’s. He hopes to shed light on new bartending talent through the competition, which is sponsored by Horizon Beverage, Broken Shed Vodka, Anna’s Kitchen, Bank of America, Sprout Microgreens, Casamigos Tequila, Yacht Club Soda and Rhody Foody. Full disclosure: I will be serving as a judge representing Rhode Island Monthly.
“The intention is that Sling will be a series and seasonally appropriate. I’d like to do two or three of them a year,” say Simmons. “We have a great cocktail scene here, and we’d like to leverage these beautiful spaces.”
Tickets are $20 each and proceeds will benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
