House Lust: The Most Extravagant Condo on the Market in Rhode Island
It's $4.3 million and 5,253 square feet.
Condos are hotter than ever in Rhode Island. According to the state’s Association of Realtors, the condominium market saw a 13.7 percent jump in sales activity compared to 2018’s figures. The August 2019 market report, released late last month, attributed the increase in sales to the scarcity of single-family starter homes. The report also noted new Federal Housing Authority (FHA) regulations, effective this month, which will make it easier for condo buyers to secure low down-payment mortgages.
Affordable options abound, but many (many!) are so very bland. Just a quick peek on the state MLS, and my condo prejudices were quickly affirmed. There’s a whole lot of white tile and wall-to-wall carpeting and negligible curb appeal out there; don’t say I didn’t warn you.
And then there’s unit 303S in Bristol’s Stone Harbour Condominiums. It’s pure indulgence. It offers a master class on opulent wallpaper. In the ensuite master bath, you soak in a freestanding tub and in wall-to-wall calacatta gold marble. It’s 5,253 square feet, for goodness’ sake. The designer and architect, Walter Weissenborn, must’ve had a lot of fun with this commission, which involved joining two adjacent units to create a corner unit with 180-degree views of Bristol Harbor.
So if, like me, you thought all condos were characterless, here’s your House Lust, and think again:
