Buy One Give One at J Marcel Donates Clothing to Sojourner House
For every clothing item purchased, J Marcel is donating the exact same item to Sojourner House.
Providence women’s retail shop J Marcel has recently announced a new program, “Buy One Give One,” where for every piece of clothing bought from their website or by phone, J Marcel will donate the same item to the Sojourner House.
The Sojourner House is a nonprofit organization that promotes healthy relationships for victims and survivors of domestic and sexual abuse; and according to Sojourner House executive director, Vanessa Volz, J Marcel’s program directly benefits clients in need of support during this COVID-19 era. Volz states that “this is a challenging time for everyone, [and] this is an important reminder that there are many opportunities to provide help and support each other.”
J Marcel believes that clothing can be empowering and give confidence to the many women shaken by current life events. Co-owner Dixie Carroll says, “the act of giving an article of clothing can make a real difference to someone trying to get back on their feet.”
Carroll’s partner, Bill Jette, added that “the COVID-19 crisis has struck us all in some way. It’s disorienting and scary, with lots of uncertainty. But at the same time, it’s also a reminder to us all just to be kind. Give something if you can. And there’s no need for that sentiment to fade as the crisis fades.”
J Marcel plans to make their “Buy One Give One” program a permanent change to their business practice. When social distancing guidelines relax, “Buy One Give One” will extend to purchases made in-store as well.
Visit J Marcel’s website or call at 401-383-9777 to order clothes today and help the community.
J Marcel is located at 808 Hope Street in Providence, but it’s currently closed due to COVID-19.
