From the same entrepreneurs who brought us Wickford on the Water in North Kingstown, JB’s on the Water in Jamestown, River Falls in Woonsocket, and the latest addition, Sombra Eatery and Lounge in East Greenwich, owners John and Shannon Brito welcomed Birch & Bay Rooftop Coastal Kitchen to Wakefield’s Main Street this past November.

Leading up to the grand opening, curious onlookers who walked by the building — where Phil’s Main Street Grille used to be — could stay in the loop about the establishment by scanning the QR code outside and following the social media accounts.

Now that it’s open to the public, guests can indulge in breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus brunch on the weekends, while immersed in the eatery’s vacation-worthy vibes year-round.

If you’re a fan of Wickford on the Water, think of Birch & Bay as its younger sister. The coastal feel transports you to a tropical destination, regardless of the season. Mid to late April, once New England cooperates, experience the quintessential summer experience by sitting al fresco on the rooftop deck.

“One of our sayings is, ‘You’re officially on vacation,’” says owner John Brito. “We really try to push for that vibe throughout the restaurant with the decor, drinks and the food; everything makes you feel like you’re on vacation.”

With three bars onsite, there’s a myriad of creative and delicious cocktails to quench your thirst. The boozy coffees alone are a fun time (choose between the Almond Joy, Fruity Pebbles, coffee Oreo or chocolate pistachio iced coffees), and Brito remarks that they are a must try during brunch. To pair with your late morning meal, the classic or fig and prosciutto eggs Benedict topped with herb hollandaise sauce and served with crisp homefries, or the sweet apple Belgian waffle, is sure to satisfy your brunch cravings.

“There’s so many dishes to choose from. The short rib dinner is definitely one of the crowd favorites,” Brito says. The burgers and other handhelds are irresistible choices as well.

The Birch & Bay team feel welcomed as Wakefield’s newcomers, and aim to continue the lively coastal charm that draws both locals and summer visitors alike.

“We just want to add to what already is a great existing community,” says Brito. “We want to be there for the locals and tourists that come during the summer months and provide the absolute best service and food we possibly can.

The new eatery also contributes as a venue space. Within the High Tides room upstairs, B&B Rooftop or full restaurant rental, Birch & Bay offers to host bridal showers, birthdays and plenty of other private events. And come summertime, live entertainment will accompany your meal and drink as the sun sets.

Birch & Bay is open daily for lunch and dinner, and for brunch on Saturday and Sunday. 323 Main St., Wakefield, 401-284-1200, birchandbayri.com
