House Lust: California Vibes in a Sweet Suburban Setting
The 1928 Spanish Revival features stunning period details, original hardwoods and updated everything. Plus, it’s just down the road from one of Rhode Island’s best bakeries.
Full disclosure: I love this house. I’m not even going to try to hide it for the sake of journalistic integrity. I adore this sweet Spanish Revival and ogle it every time we make the trip to Wright’s Dairy Farm and Bakery, where it sits proudly on Great Road, just tempting passersby with its scintillating, scarlet-tiled roof, that stately brick exterior and those dainty Juliet balconies.
“Hello, darling,” it practically whispers. “I just flew in from Bel Air for a few days. Do join me for some mimosas on the back deck. I’d love to catch up.”
I mean, this house just oozes character. And it’s for sale! After raising their family in the North Smithfield home — they purchased it in 1987 — the current owners are looking to downsize.
“It’s one of those houses that you’re just curious about,” says Jennifer Gorman-Smith of RE/MAX Properties. “You don’t see this style often in Rhode Island — it’s like something you’d see in California. It’s definitely a unique non-colonial house.”
Without further ado, here’s your House Lust:
