House Lust: An Earthy, Eco-Friendly Beach House is on the Market in Little Compton
It has sheep's wool insulation, solar panels and a surf hut. Oh, and incredible views from a network of decks.
It’s like this place sprouted from the rocks, solar panels and all.
Architect Maryann Thompson designed it that way. Her firm is lauded for its careful, reverent communion with nature. Even Thoreau would’ve appreciated her take on the Walden Pond visitor center.
This property in Little Compton is equally worthy of experiments in transcendentalism. Think of how much more comfortable Walden cabin would’ve been with zero-VOC sheep’s wool insulation, a rainwater collection network and an indoor/outdoor Sonos sound system. (Alright, alright: Thoreau would’ve hated that last one. But we don’t.)
The creature comforts here are so plentiful, they blur together in a sort of high-dollar stream of consciousness: Ensuitebedrooms-radiantfloors-centralHVAC-surfhut — wait, surf hut? — triplepanewindows-sauna-outdoorshowers-remotecontrolthermostats, on and on and on.
What really stands out here — besides the surf hut, of course — can be neither created nor installed: Long Pond to the north and, to south, the great Atlantic as far as the eye can see.
