RIBBA’s Scholarship Applications Open for Black High School Seniors
The Institute of Economic Empowerment and Development helps provide these scholarships to Black Rhode Island students who will be enrolled in college this fall.
Applications are now open for the Rhode Island Black Business Association’s 2021 college scholarship. The Institute of Economic Empowerment and Development, a division of RIBBA, helps provide these scholarships to Black Rhode Island students who will be enrolled in college this fall. Scholarship amounts range from $500 to $1,000 and to date, the organization has awarded $45,000 in scholarship funds to Black students.
As Amanda Roman, RIBBA’s Director of Program Development and Operations, explains, these scholarship funds help Black students overcome some of the systemic barriers they often face when pursuing higher degrees. Alongside this scholarship program, RIBBA and IEED offer a number of programs that help make higher education more equitable for Black students, such as mentorship programs, financial literacy training and executive coaching. Programs such as these help support students throughout their academic careers.
Scholarships will be awarded to Rhode Islanders who are currently high school seniors and will be attending an accredited college in fall of 2021. Applications are due on May 27 at 4 p.m. More information can be found at ri-bba.org/scholarship.
