How You Can Help Support the Rhode Island Feline Rescue
The organization is looking for locals to foster, volunteer and donate to their cause.
Nancy Dyer and Aznif Calikyan co-founded the Rhode Island Feline Rescue nonprofit organization upon meeting at a fundraiser event for their shared passion of helping cats in need. They officially begun the rescue league in August of 2023, helping foster stray, surrendered or ill cats. Their first fostered cat was Liberty, a stray who was brought to them on the fourth of July. Since opening last year, the organization has had success with ninety-eight fosters and seventy-five adoptions.
Still, Rhode Island Feline Rescue needs help to continue to flourish in rescuing these fur babies as well as providing care for them until they find their new home. They are looking for individuals to foster, volunteer and donate to their cause.
Interested in fostering? The rescue provides all equipment and services needed to thrive in aiding the incoming cats, including cages, food, litter boxes and medical expenses. They also offer virtual fostering which includes paying a monthly fee of $50 to be assigned a cat that you will be kept in the loop with after it’s adopted. The only requirements to become a foster are you must have a small closed off space in your home to keep the cats safe, and all other animals in the home must be up to date on medical care such as vaccines. You can find the application on their website here to get started today.
If you’re ready to welcome a new pet into your home on a more permanent level, all cats from their organization are vaccinated, de-wormed, micro-chipped, neutered and examined for any medical issues. The website displays the selection of cats available, which range from kittens to senior cats, as well as more information on adoption fees and what type of household would best suit each feline. The adoption application must be filled out to begin the process.
Additionally, the rescue needs donations to continue to take in more cats as well as provide the necessary care to each re-homed pet. You can find them at several upcoming events selling homemade cat toys, blankets, treats and many more goods to take home to your current kitty.
