Tickets are officially on sale for the International Tennis Hall of Fame’s induction weekend events, offering tennis fans across the state a chance to mingle with the greats.
The Hall of Fame will induct three candidates during this year’s celebration July 18–20. Former doubles champion Leander Paes, broadcaster and promoter Vijay Amritraj and journalist and writer Richard Evans will all receive the sport’s greatest honor.
Paes, an eighteen-time Grand Slam champion in doubles and mixed doubles, will be honored in the player category, and Amritraj will be honored as a contributor, a category considered every two years. The two men are the first Indians to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and the first Asian men inducted in their respective categories. Evans will also be inducted in the contributor category.
“I am thrilled to congratulate Leander Paes, Vijay Amritraj and Richard Evans on their election to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. These three legends have served as trailblazers in their impact on tennis, and in spreading the sport worldwide. We are excited to celebrate the Class of 2024 in the coming year,” says Kim Clijsters, Hall of Fame Class of 2017 and president of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
As part of the induction ceremonies, guests will have the chance to mingle with other Hall of Fame alumni at a series of weekend events. Following its successful debut last year, the Courting Fashion cocktail and dance party makes its return on Friday, July 19, this time with Rosecliff as the venue. The event features historic tennis fashions from the museum’s collection on display along with a live band and dinner stations.
On Saturday, the inductees are presented with their official blazers during the Brooks Brothers Brunch with Legends on the iconic Horseshoe Court (HBO fans will recognize the setting from “The Gilded Age”), followed by the semifinals of the Infosys Hall of Fame Open Tournament. At night, the induction ceremony is followed by another celebration featuring drinks, dinner and dancing.
Ongoing throughout the weekend are the final matches of the Infosys Hall of Fame Open, which officially begins on Sunday, July 14. Tickets for the Hall of Fame Open go on sale next Tuesday, May 7.
Perhaps most exciting for the fans is the opportunity to cheer alongside Hall of Fame alumni as they recognize the new inductees. Andre Agassi is expected back in Newport for the first time since his induction in 2011, and Hall of Famers Tracy Austin, Rosie Casals, Kim Clijsters, Rick Draney, Gigi Fernandez, Steve Flink and Stan Smith are also expected to attend the weekend events.
Tickets to the Hall of Fame Weekend events can be purchased individually or as a package and are on sale on the International Tennis Hall of Fame website at tennisfame.com/induction. Infosys Hall of Fame Open tickets go on sale May 7.
