Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10, 2020. We all know how much mom does for the family, so now is your chance to show her a little appreciation, especially now that her role has increased ten-fold (more cooking, cleaning and laundry than ever, plus add schoolteacher on top of it). Avvio Ristorante, located at Garden City Center at 90 Hillside Road in Cranston, will be offering a family-style takeout menu for Mother’s Day from noon to 6 p.m., in addition to its full takeout menu. The family-style menu feeds four people and includes a half sheet pan of focaccia bread, salad, entrée and dessert for $100. Salad options include a Caesar with romaine or the insalata di Avvio with romaine, arugula, radicchio, shaved fennel, Grana Padano and a lemon basil vinaigrette. Entrée selections include chicken piccata: pan-sautéed chicken, roasted potatoes, green beans and a lemon, white wine and caper butter sauce; chicken Parmesan with penne pomodoro; rigatoni bolognese with a beef, veal, pork and tomato ragu and Grana Padano; or penne con pollo with grilled chicken, shiitake mushrooms, asparagus, tomatoes, roasted garlic and a white wine butter sauce. The Capital Grille is offering a three-course family-style Mother’s Day dinner to go, featuring a whole-roasted beef tenderloin and choice of butter poached North Atlantic lobster tails or scampi-style jumbo shrimp. The Chanler in Newport has created a Mother’s Day dinner menu as part of their larger ‘Mansion At Home’ takeout and delivery program. Newport locals can bring a taste of the property’s fine dining to their own dining rooms. The upscale three-course Mother’s Day menu offers various choices per course, including a house-cured salmon tart, spring onion soup, artisan lettuces or an ancient grains salad as a starter; pork loin, Wagyu ribeye, chicken confit pasta or North Atlantic cod as an entree choice; and Valhrona chocolate cake, rhubarb panna cotta crumble, mango sponge cake custard or ice cream for dessert. Dinner for one is $50, for two is $95, for four is $180 and for six is $265. There’s also a children’s menu ($30 per child) and a list of wines by the bottle available for purchase. Nicks on Broadway is collaborating with Jephry Floral Studio to put together Mother’s Day bouquets for pickup alongside a special takeout Mother’s Day brunch menu. Chef Derek Wagner is making frittatas with first of the season spring asparagus, mushrooms and herby pesto, buttermilk biscuits with Vermont maple butter, herb-roasted home-fry potatoes and glazed cinnamon rolls with lots of tasty add-on treats. The package for two with flowers and a bottle of sparkling rose is $88, for four it’s $118, and for six it’s $148. Mission Cold Brew, Young Family Farm and Aimee’s Bakin’ are collaborating for a Mother’s Day package that includes a giant bouquet of tulips from Young Family Farm and Young Designs, a five-pack of macarons from Aimee’s Bakin’ and a half-gallon go-bag of coffee or tea from Mission Cold Brew.
