John Elkhay Hopes to Organize Biggest Blood Drive

In exchange for your donation, donors will receive a voucher good for one "Build your own burger" and a blood orange margarita at Luxe Burger Bar.

We recently learned that Chow Fun Food Group maestro John Elkhay is fighting blood cancer. A moving Providence Journal story by Gail Ciampa shares what he is going through and gives hope for the future. His oldest brother is a match for a bone marrow transplant, so everyone is very hopeful about Elkhay’s recovery.

We have worked with John Elkhay and his restaurants for many years, including Harry’s Bar and Burger, Ten Prime Steak and Sushi, Xaco Taco and Luxe Burger Bar. In the face of a serious illness, Elkhay still hopes to give back, so he’s organizing what he hopes to be one of the biggest blood drives in the city. The blood is not for him, but for everyone else who needs it through Rhode Island Blood Center.

On November 13 from 3 to 7 p.m., head to the Bloodmobile that will be located at Luxe Burger Bar at 5 Memorial Boulevard in Providence, and donate blood. In exchange for your donation, donors will receive a voucher good for one “Build your own burger” and a blood orange margarita at Luxe Burger Bar.

A flyer reads: “You’ve got blood. We’ve got burgers. Let’s trade.” But even if you can’t make the November 13th date, you can still take advantage of the offer. Visit any RI Blood Center anytime, and use sponsor code #3944 to receive your voucher. For more information and appointments, visit ribc.org/drives.

Let’s help John Elkhay make this the biggest blood drive yet!
