House Lust: A Special Little Nook in Wickford Village is on the Market

The one-acre property, on a marshy cove in the heart of the village, hosts the beloved Wickford Gourmet, a tea house and a stylish apartment.

This property is the real estate equivalent of a Russian nesting doll — a mini village within a village loaded with charm and opportunity.

Included in the sale is a red mansard cottage that houses the iconic Wickford Gourmet kitchen outlet, a Main Street destination with wares for home cooks spread over two levels. Also included is a second shingled building with village newcomer Sweet Marie’s Tea Cottage, which opened in August of 2021 and offers tea services with all the tasty accompaniments. In the same building is another first-level space with a kitchen and bathroom, plus an upper level two-bedroom apartment. The latter, currently available for rent on Airbnb, was renovated in 2017 by Gardner Woodwrights.

The property is owned by Joe and Donna Dube, Wickford Gourmet’s proprietors of nearly forty years. In an email, Lila Delman Compass’ Jaime Wilson says 2021 may be the Dubes’ most profitable year to date, with shop sales nearly doubling what they were three years ago — and without a website, email or e-commerce, he adds.

“They are primarily interested in divesting themselves of the real estate, but would be open to selling the inventory and providing consulting to a buyer,” Wilson says. “There are a wide variety of investment options within the two buildings that sit on the land.”

Whether you’d reign onsite or from afar, village lords and ladies, here’s your House Lust:
