The Guardian Film Festival’s headlining film, Juliet and Delta, is a crime and drama film directed by local filmmaker Marco Sandoval.

This October, your ticket to the Guardian Film Festival can help save lives.

On Thursday, October 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Avon Cinema in Providence, view the work of local, diverse and independent filmmakers the Guardian Film Festival. An event produced by Nihilist Media and Soul Prophet Productions, all proceeds help fund the Guardian Group’s Project 1591, whose mission is to prevent sex trafficking and allow volunteers to help identify and illuminate victims of sex trafficking in the U.S.

Doors for the Guardian Film Festival open at 6:30 p.m., and tickets are $15 — sold both online and at the door.

Collin Rousseau, local independent film producer and head of Nihilist Media, joined forces with longtime friend Marco Sandoval to host the night of festivities (think: a movie premier with all the glitz and glam of Hollywood, but with noble intentions). Capture your good side during the photo-ops, walk the red carpet, sign up for the night’s raffle then settle in with a bucket of popcorn. Later, hear from the speaker representing the charity — straight from Seattle, Washington, Andrea Perry of the Guardian Group will educate the audience on how everyone can help combat human trafficking in their own way.

The ten films — featuring genres like fantasy, horror, drama and more — span from three minutes to seventeen minutes. The films be split up into two sections with an intermission for a Q&A with the filmmakers and for Andrea Perry from the Guardian Group to inform the audience about the organization. Guests also have the chance to further support the filmmakers by purchasing the available merchandise.

In the second half of the film fest, the headlining film Juliet and Delta will be premiered. A film by Marco Sandoval, Juliet and Delta is a troubled love story about a Black couple in America, navigating the difficulties of modern life and dating in the city. Near and dear to Sandoval, this is a story Sandoval feels is necessary to be expressed in media today.

Three other films on the list are Shadowed Reflections, a drama directed by Emma J. Mackenzie; Suspended in Paradise by Melanie de Souza – a visually aesthetic and nostalgic mix that speaks to the culture’s experiences with modernist art – and hidden gem A Woman Under an Inferno Sky by Kris Salvi, a film where a woman from the early 1900s tackles serious issues that ultimately leads to her make an attempt on her own life, only to awake in the modern day.

After the marathon of unique and independent films, get the chance to ask more questions or even meet the filmmakers and Guardian Group speaker. The wide array of filmmakers being brought into the Guardian Film Festival is a new wave of underground artists climbing the filmmaking ladder in avant-garde fashion. This is thanks to the incredibly diverse and female-led filmmakers creating a unique and experimental experience in hopes of leaving audiences members talking about art and film, while spreading awareness about human trafficking.
