If your relationship could use an out-of-town jaunt, the Cliff House is that honeymoon setting. Perched seventy feet atop Bald Head Cliff, it’s Insta-worthy. Originally constructed in 1872 and redesigned in 2016 with 226 rooms total (including forty specialty suites and a private cottage), the resort blends nautical influences with clean Scandi-style.

The seventy-acre property features restaurants, two outdoor pools, a movie theater and a 9,000-foot spa (with seacoast and roses treatments inspired by the wild beach roses). Channel your inner Andrew Wyeth with the “Art on the Cliff” package as artist in residence Ric Della Bernarda gives painting lessons al fresco on the grounds or in the studio. In winter months, guests can thaw by the terrace fire pit or lounge in the hot tub surrounded by a path of heated stones.

If you bring the kids (maybe next time…), the inn offers nature and craft activities, movies and storytelling in warmer weather. Guided (or self-guided) excursions in nearby Ogunquit include fishing, horseback riding, sailing, surfing or mountain-biking down a wooded single-track trail. There’s kayaking along the Ogunquit River or in York Harbor, as well as lobstering and fishing excursions. Guests can haul traps and deep-sea fish before a boat tour of nearby lighthouses and islands. There’s a reason the state’s slogan is “the way life should be.”
