At last night’s Festival Ballet gala, the organization revealed that they have officially rebranded as Ballet Rhode Island. The new name is all-encompassing for the artistic organization’s relationship with the Ocean State to pay tribute to the art form on a statewide level. According to a statement released by Ballet RI, “This new identity is a dedication and commitment to their home state of Rhode Island, a growing community, and a testament to the continued reimagination that is at the core of their artistic mission.”

Director Kathleen Breen Combes explained how the dance company intends to continue to bring dance to communities that have long faced barriers to access. “Art, by its very nature, must evolve to stay relevant, interesting, and compelling,” says Breen Combes. “Through the years, Festival Ballet Providence has evolved to serve communities across the Ocean State and I’m thrilled that under this expanded new identity, Ballet RI will continue to serve as a meeting place for audiences and a platform for artists across the region and beyond.”

Ballet RI aims to modernize and reimagine ballet through unusual performances and extraordinary talent, while reflecting on the diversity of Rhode Island. “I am thrilled to see this exciting new chapter for an institution that has grown into an artistic engine for all Rhode Islanders,” says Laurine Ryan-Perry, Board President.
