Chez Pascal has turned its outdoor patio into an Après Ski adventure. Eight Adirondack chairs await along with a menu of soul-satisfying one-pot meals and drinks that will warm your belly as you sit and enjoy the great outdoors on Hope Street in Providence. Chez Pascal owners, husband-and-wife team Kristin and Matt Gennuso came up with the idea to channel an après ski vibe in light of Covid-19 safety restrictions.

“Neither of us ski, but we both really love everything else that goes along with it. The warm fun parts that is,” says Kristin Gennuso in a blog post on Chez Pascal’s website. “The beautiful scenery, being outdoors, enjoying hot food and tasty drink even when it is knee-slapping freezing cold outside. Something about the whole setting is just so darn comforting.”

The restaurant may not have slopes to ski, but it can bring the warm and fuzzy dining experience to PVD. There are no tables, just the chairs with a drink holder, so it’s really meant to enjoy a bite and sip and not a full, three-course meal. Beverage aficionado Ian Magiros has come up with a great selection of Alpine amaro to go along with Matt Gennuso’s comfort food menu of chicken Carbonnade with bacon, onions, kohlrabi, cabbage, caraway seeds, nutmeg and polenta; Top of the Roof Chili; Tartiflette with potatoes baked with Alpine-style cheese, yellow turnips, apples, sauerkraut, white wine and cornichons with grilled bread; and pork and beans, plus warm chocolate “oozylisciousness” for dessert.  Try the amaro by one ounce, two ounces or as a flight and let the drink warm you from the inside. There’s also beer and wine and après ski cocktails.

The Après Ski experience is available from Tues.-Fri. from 4:30-7 p.m., and on Saturdays from noon to 7 p.m. Reservations are for chairs and Après Ski menu only, but you can also order more food to take home from the regular takeout menu. As always, bundle up and wear your mask. Bonus points for those who show up in ski attire!
