All Access BadgeIn a world full of male dominated fields, the music industry is no different. The people behind Tune in & Tune Up, a nonprofit organization that provides mental and physical healthcare to musicians and music professionals, decided to plan an event that puts women in the spotlight. Amplify Her: Celebrating Women in Music will take place October 18th at The Met in Pawtucket.

“Our previous events have typically unintentionally been male focused, so we figured why not flip it a bit and have women headline,” says Tune in & Tune Up admin Sarah Puerini. “It was during last Women’s Month that we got the idea and we’ve been slowly planning it since.”

The event has an all-female lineup of musicians, featuring Adrienne West, Becky Chace, Beth Killian Music, Julie Rhodes, Lainey Dionne, Madison Curbelo, Ms. Marci Hooper, Maeve Mallow and Sarah Lupo, who will all perform around 15-minute increments while headliners The Winehouse Project and Debra Devi will perform for around 30 minutes. The event will kick off with a performance by youth musicians’ part of School of Rock Seekonk.

Keeping with the theme of supporting and aiding women, the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation will be present at a table providing resources for breast cancer screenings while Health Source RI will be set up handing out information about health insurance options. Raffle and auction items include portraits of Dolly Parton and an autographed guitar. The event is raising money for those in the music industry, and that doesn’t just mean musicians.

“We want to make sure that folks know they’re eligible to receive resources from us even if they aren’t a musician,” says Kate Noveau, a behavioral health specialist who is part of the organization. “Music professional means sound engineer, stagehand, anything really. We’re here to support those in the music industry as a whole.”

The organization also started an initiative around the holidays that they are moving to year-round. Dave’s Marketplace has partnered with Tuen in & Tune Up to hand out gift cards for $100. The gift cards can go towards groceries and can be applied for online, helping take some financial burden off music industry professionals.

The organization plans to hold another all-female show as well as other fundraising events in the future. This year, there was so much interest from musicians to perform that the organization sadly had to turn some away. The group is confident in expanding future fundraisers and the organizations mission in the future.
