5 Farms to Visit for Pick-Your-Own Strawberries

The season is short, but the berries are ripe for picking (and eating).

This article was updated from an earlier version published in 2020.

Strawberry season is a short and fleeting time from mid-June to early July (if we are lucky). As quickly as the berries emerge and ripen, they are gone just as fast. Be sure to head to one of these local farms so you can pick-your-own ruby red berries and incorporate them into pies, shortcakes, salads or straight from stem to mouth.

Salisbury Farm

Salisbury Farm is now open for strawberry pickin.’ Pick-your-own strawberries are $27 for a bucket, which holds about four quarts of strawberries, and you can take the bucket home with you. If you’d rather head straight to the farm stand, you can get a quart for $11.

Hours: Open daily, 10 a.m.−5 p.m., but check Salisbury Farm’s Facebook page for updates on availability before you go.

Four Town Farm

Starting early June you can pick the freshest strawberries straight off the stem at Four Town Farm. At the start of the season, the strawberries get picked over quickly, so check for updates before you go to make sure the field is still open. They provide either baskets or quart containers for you to fill up once you arrive. As an added bonus, the farm also offers pick-your-own peas this time of year and a pick-your-own flower garden set to open around the end of June.

Hours: Pick-your-own is daily from 9 a.m–4 p.m., but you can also buy picked berries in the farm stand during store hours. The farm stand is open for produce pickup Mon.−Sun., 9 a.m.−6 p.m.

Quonset View Farm

Strawberry-picking season has just arrived at Quonset View Farm. This 140-acre farm was founded in 1915 and is a place where guests can pick ripe strawberries overlooking the shoreline of Aquidneck Island. The potato farm grows strawberries in the late-spring and early-summer and harvests spuds later in the season. They have containers for customer use or you can bring your own. Pick your own strawberries are priced at $3 per pound and leave the credit cards at home because Quonset View is a cash-only facility.

Hours: Open daily, 8 a.m.−6 p.m.

Sweet Berry Farm

Strawberry picking at Sweet Berry Farm officially opened Sunday, June 9, and the season will last until early July. Swing by to grab a basket full of fresh picked berries or stop by the farm stand to pick up strawberry-flavored traets like strawberry rhubarb pie, strawberry Krispies treats, strawberry cupcakes, strawberry mousse, strawberry swirl cheesecakes, strawberry lemonade and more. You can also pick your own Peonies, Sweet William and Canterbury Bells.

Hours: Open daily, 10 a.m.– 5:30 p.m. for picking; 9 a.m.–6 p.m. for store hours.

Brandon Family Farm

Brandon Family Farms’ “Organic U-Pick” is ripe and ready for the pickin’, but only for a few more days this season! Be sure to get there this week — the organic strawberries are priced at $7.50 per pound.

Hours: Hours vary by day/week; check website for details.
