Revolve Dance Project Presents Sound in Form
The production showcases original work performed by graduates of The Juilliard School and New York City Ballet
Revolve Dance Project, created by husband-and-wife duo Cameron and Kirsten MacIntosh, will present six world premiere pieces in their season four project, Sound in Form. The show is on Sunday June 29 at 2p.m. and 6p.m. at The Strand Ballroom and Theatre in downtown Providence. Season four will also include fan favorite “Runner’s High” choreographed by Kurt Douglas and composed by Daniel Hass. The audience will also witness an extended version of “Bones” by choreographer Lauren Lovette.
This lineup is not only full of original work but will also feature some of the best young talent in the northeast as graduates of The Juilliard School and New York City Ballet showcase their talent.
Those talented youngsters will be performing a new pas de deux specifically created for Indiana Woodward and Gilbert Bolden III, both of whom are Principal Dancers for New York City Ballet. The piece is choreographed by fellow New York City Ballet dancer Laine Habony and the music is an original score by Juilliard Master of Music Graduate, Katie Jenkins.
If you attended last year’s Revolve Dance Project, you’re familiar with violinist and composer Josh Knowles who will be making a return. Knowles will be part of two pieces in collaboration with Ballet West dancer and choreographer Emily Adams and another collaboration with Boston Ballet Principal Dancer Jeffrey Cirio. Those collaborations will produce two solo pieces for Ballet West dancer Joe Lynch and Ballet RI dancer Katie Vigly respectfully.
Two choreographers will be making their Revolve Dance Project debuts; New York City’s freelancing choreographer Danielle Diniz and freelance dancer Luis Ocaranza. Diniz will be performing with composer and trumpet player Anthony Hervey as he’ll be writing and performing the music of their piece. As for Ocaranza, he’ll be working with singer and songwriter Katie Martucci. These two will be providing an intimate experience for audiences with their pas de deux featuring Kailee Felix, a freelancer dancer, and Aram Hengen of New Jersey Ballet.
There will be a large ensemble piece with music composed and performed by Martucci. The choreographer for this piece will be done by Boston-based Dara Capley and their piece will be performed by an entire company of dancers and musicians.
All of this amazing talent works together for three weeks leading up to shows during which composers, choreographers, dancers and musicians rehearse and perfect their pieces. This process is part of Revolve Dance Project’s partnership with Metamorphosis Dance Company in Pawtucket and their Educational Community Programming, a program that provides low-cost summer workshops for intensive dancers. Nearly every genre is covered, from jazz and indie to pop and contemporary. Expect a great show and to be a spectator of the best musical talents in the northeast.
