Party Under the Stars at the Providence Preservation Society’s Winter Bash
This weekend's PPS Bash is celestial-inspired, meaning dress up like your astrological sign, or create costumes that look like stars or planets.
The stars have aligned, and Saturday night looks like a great night to look up at the sky for inspiration for Saturday’s annual Providence Preservation Society Winter Bash. The Providence Preservation Society (PPS) is planning to clear away the clouds and drive away the winter blues with a celestial theme at its twenty-first annual Winter Bash this Saturday, March 1. This year, the six-time Best of Rhode Island award-winning event — which typically draws more than 500 attendees and serves as a major fundraiser for the city-centric nonprofit — will take place at 299 Promenade Street, a property owned by the Foundry Associates, from 8:30 p.m. to midnight.
For the uninitiated, the Winter Bash selects a new location each year, highlighting the potential for historic properties that are typically in transition (i.e. last year, the party was held inside the Foxon Company Building in Providence, and the 2023 party was held in the Superman Building).
“We look forward to celebrating our city’s unique architecture and heritage with costumed revelers who, we know, will bring all of their creativity to bear to this year’s theme of celestial bodies,” says PPS Executive Director Marisa Brown. “The Bash location this year is a former Brown & Sharpe warehouse on Promenade Street dating to 1940 in Smith Hill — one of the last buildings constructed as part of the tool manufacturer’s campus before they decamped to North Kingstown in 1965. ”
The venue will be transformed into an “astronomical portal” with stars and lighting to represent a starry night. Dress up in your best planetary getup, or go simple with glittering sequins. You can even resemble your astronomical sign. Half the fun of the evening is seeing what everyone is wearing and soaking up the decor. Expect an evening of cosmic elegance, aerial dancers, stellar company and a worthy cause all in one place!
If you’re looking forward to kicking up your heels too and diving into an immersive night of live performances, dancing and complimentary snacks from local restaurants, tickets start at $75 a pop and can be purchased here. VIP selections are $155 per person (includes access to VIP lounge, seating, bottomless bubbles and gourmet treats), so be sure to grab yours. If you are a PPS member, tickets are $65 (general) and $140 (VIP). For more information, visit eventbrite.com.
