Brighten Up Your Winter Nights in the City at the Lumina Light Festival
The free festival will illuminate Downtown Providence from February 19 to March 5.
Get ready to break out of hibernation. Downtown Providence’s customarily long and dark winter nights will soon see the light again thanks to the return of the Lumina Festival, a vibrant and captivating celebration. From Thursday, February 19, to Thursday, March 5, the heart of the Creative Capital will transform into a vibrant winter display of light, public art and community spirit, stretching from BankNewport City Center to the 195 District Park
Drawing inspiration from displays in other Northeast cities, the free festival offers a number of grand spectacles and heartwarming experiences. Building on the success of the past two years, the 2026 festival will feature human-powered illuminated musical note sculptures, appropriately called Maestro, as well as an Iceberg Trail featuring glowing iceberg-inspired installations. For the pop-culture enthusiasts, the bright and bold Taylor Swift’s World area will showcase four interactive sculptures inspired by the the singer’s Eras Tour (think sparkly boots, vivd instruments and more). Or if you want even more spectacular photo ops, keep an eye out for the five colorful star sculptures that make up Starlight. Check out the Downtown Providence Parks Network mad here for each installation’s exact location.
The festival is a bright light — pun absolutely intended — for the city during the winter months when business is typically slow. last year alone, the festival collaborated with more than forty local organizations and downtown businesses, attracted more than 300,000 visitors (school trips included), generated millions of online impressions via media coverage, and generated a 45 percent increase in downtown foot traffic.
