Shake Shack Gives Back on Opening Day in Garden City Center
On opening day, Shake Shack shows its support and graciousness by giving back to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

Joining the Thayer Street location, Shake Shack brings the original smash burger and decadent shakes to Garden City Center in Cranston while supporting the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
On opening day, Garden City’s location donated $1 from each sandwich sold on Aug. 8 to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, a great way to start inviting the local community into Shake Shack’s legend. In addition, the location collected 140 cans of nonperishable food for donation.
Remember when Garden City was a pit of now-defunct businesses of Circuit City, Borders, The Outlet and Cohoes? Now, the plaza has become a must-see shopping, family fun and events and live music destination. It continues to bring in new businesses, both local and national, to add to the shopping experience. While you’re out and about grabbing a new outfit, homeware or jewelry, stop by Shake Shack for lunch or dinner.
What will it be? Choose from the signature smash burgers, or if you’re a no-cow person, grab one of the hand-breaded crispy fried chicken sandos. Add on crinkle cut fries and one of the signature shakes (also available in non-dairy options) or a house-made lemonade if you’re looking for a refreshing treat. Craft beer and wine are also available for those dining in. If you’ve decided to bring the pup for a walk, there are biscuits and vanilla custard to keep their tails wagging.
Before it expanded to its nationwide success, Shake Shack began as many other booming businesses do: small and unsure of its future. Starting as a hot dog cart in New York City’s Madison Square Park, the goal was to raise funds for a public art project. It maintained that vision and as it expanded, it created the Stand For Something Good mission which sources premium ingredients from partners with the same mindset and supports communities through donations, events and volunteering.
“We are thrilled to welcome Shake Shack to the Garden City Center,” says Joe Koechel, Garden City Center’s general manager. “Shake Shack puts community at the center of what they do, which aligns beautifully with our goals at Garden City Center. Not only is the food fresh and absolutely delicious but their ability to partner with local organizations, schools and artists will result in our community welcoming them with open arms.”
The first 100 guests received brand merchandise as a thank-you to supporting its new membership to a developing shopping center.
