Boots on the Ground is Displayed at Fort Adams
The traditional memorial represents service members killed in the line of duty.

The Boots on the Ground for Heroes Memorial presented by Operation Stand Down Rhode Island represents service men and women who were killed in the line of duty since September 11, 2001. The display of 6,957 boots are lined up in rows and are adorned with both mini American flags and name tags. It is free to the public and is available for viewing at Fort Adams Park in Newport Friday through Monday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Twenty-nine Rhode Islanders are represented in a circle of boots placed by Gold Star family members who will be honored on Friday night at a gala event at 6:30 p.m. Plus, a concert featuring the Eighty-eighth Army Band of the Rhode Island National Guard is scheduled to play Sunday evening.
