8 Things to Do at the Eighth Annual Rhode Island Comic Con
Get ready Providence: the fandoms are set to take over the city this weekend once again at this year's Rhode Island Comic Con.
You’ve read over the Rhode Island Comic Con survival guide and bought your passes, now it’s time to plan your schedule for the weekend. Lucky for you, we’ve gone ahead and compiled some can’t miss highlights.
Must See Celebrities
This year’s Comic Con includes guests William Shatner, Chevy Chase, J. Michael Tatum, Catherine Tate, George Takei, Elijah Wood, Christina Ricci, Benedict Wong, Dave Bautista, and many more!
Join in on a group photo op with the cast of Stranger Things and The Walking Dead. Receive an autograph and photo from your favorite actors, artists, creators, and writers. Take a walk around the convention floor and you may just bump into someone famous. I hear some actors like to arrive in disguise, so keep your eyes peeled!
- The Riddle Room
- The Genesis Cube has fallen into the enemy’s hands and has been activated to unleash a virus onto everyone in the universe. Now you must solve the puzzle to stop the cube before it’s too late! Join the escape room shenanigans in room 554B. Tickets are $3.
- The Bat Signal
- Strike a pose in front of the life-size Bat Signal! Bring your cosplayed perfect friends for a mini-photoshoot. Cell phone pictures are $5 and there is an additional $5 charge if you’d like an 8×10 print out of the picture.
On Saturday, the RI Convention Center Room 551B will be host to the video gaming Smash Ultimate Tournament, to try your chance at winning money and prizes! Tickets are $10 and space is limited, so be sure to register asap.
Now’s the time to get a tattoo from one of the many talented Ink-Fusion tattoo artists. There’s also an exclusive chance to win a free tattoo designed by Robert Englund and inked by one of the artists! To try your luck for this incredible collaboration, enter the raffle at the Ink-Fusion Tattoo Pavilion on Friday. Tickets are $20 for 2 and all entrants must be 18 years or older. For more information, click here.
Comic Con offers a variety of panels to suit all your creative and informational needs. Join Robert Englund as he speaks about his experiences as Freddy in A Nightmare on Elm Street. Be ready to take notes at the convention’s World Building 101 panel as we learn how to construct believable worlds and bring logic to fantastical stories. Stop by the Omni Hotel for a chance to see the Stranger Things season three cast discuss the Upside Down.
There are so many options; you’ll have a hard time choosing which to attend! Some panels do have limited seating so be sure to get there early and reserve your ticket for free. Go here for a schedule of all events throughout the weekend and for more information on ticketed events.
Join the world’s largest traveling comic con film festival for free screenings of the best sci-fi and fan made films of 2019! Films such as Star Wars: The Toy Awakens, Narcoleap, Hot N Nerdy, Little Man of Steel, Deadpool the Musical and more will be available for viewing.
Visit the Kids Con for fun activities in face painting, balloon animal making, and sand art! See the Premier Martial Arts performance, learn how to use the force and wield a lightsaber at Saber Guild’s Padawan Training Institute, and stop by the Mad Science educational program to become involved in interactive experiments. Visit here for more details.
RI Comic Con is resurrecting Halloween for one last night! On Friday, November 1, throw on your costume and “haunt the halls” at the Omni Providence Hotel’s Narragansett Ballroom from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Party with DJ Darth Fade and dance the night away!
From Halloween to Hawaii, it’s time to shed those creature cosplays and reminisce on the passing summer. On Saturday, November 2, join the luau and spend the night playing games, winning prizes and meeting celebrity guests!
Tickets are on sale now for $20 and available online. To attend both after parties, a party pack is available for $35. You must be 21 or older to attend the events and be able to show a Rhode Island Comic Con Friday/Saturday Day, Weekend, or VIP Admission badge to enter.
