In the heart of Westerly, a warm and welcoming spot has been inviting the community for a hearty breakfast with the family since July 2023. Whether you’re an early riser looking for buttery pancakes or woke up late craving an omelet, The Eatery serves up all the classics that make you feel right at home.

Curated by owner Shannon Holdredge, the extensive menu is filled with sweet and savory pastries and comforting meals including the Irish eggs benedict, cinnamon swirl French toast, hash brown-crusted quiche and homemade muffins. The Eatery is also known for its delicious home fries and corned beef hash.

Having worked in the restaurant business all her life, Holdredge always dreamed of owning her own breakfast spot. “I had just about given up on my dream and then this opportunity of taking over the old Beach Street cafe came to me,” says Holdredge.  “Steve Burns had owned the establishment for eleven years and was looking for just the right person to continue his dream as he was sick and could no longer run it.”

Having grown up in Westerly, Holdredge knew this was the perfect place to hit the ground running as it’s a well-known area for the first meal of the day. Her hope is to create such a bond with her customers that her legacy can be passed on to her seven children and four grandchildren.

The Eatery offers weekly comfort food and soup specials as well as holiday deals for the kids’ menu. Catering for events is also offered via pick-up, and meals can be provided for fundraisers.

“We do our comfort food nights on the first Monday of each month, offering a choice of three different meals typically chosen as our favorite comfort foods,” says Holdridge. “We give the option of adding a salad or dessert to each meal.”

Her next goal for her business is to provide a meal for people constantly on the go, those who can’t make it to dine in at the restaurant, or simply don’t feel like cooking that day.

“My next vision is for the summer of 2025 to have a grab-and-go station for all the local boaters and elderly who live alone,” Holdridge says, giving locals the “opportunity to come in for a nice hot breakfast and take home a single lunch or dinner to enjoy for later.”

The Eatery is open Monday–Friday for breakfast and lunch (fish and chips are offered from 4–7 p.m. on Fridays!), and Saturday–Sunday for breakfast only. facebook.com
