Well Read

The project: A redesign of the Cranston Central Library’s kids’ room.
What the judges liked in 2019: The bright pops of yellow, green and fuchsia are exciting, but the room also incorporates restful spaces among the chaos where kids can read quietly. “It feels good,” said one juror.
Why we like it now: What better way to inspire the intimacy of reading than with little private hideaways for camping out with a book. It also welcomes the use of the library as a community gathering place. “I could spend the day in one of those nooks (although I wouldn’t fit),” admits one staffer. “I feel as if I’m in a Dr. Seuss book,” said another.
