It’s the Teal Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) is teaming up with local CVS locations to kick off the FARE Teal Pumpkin Project 2023, an initiative that makes Halloween more inclusive for the one in thirteen children living with potentially life threatening food allergies and intolerances in the U.S.. Since 2012, the Teal Pumpkin Project has been making an effort to make Halloween safer by inviting residents to place a teal pumpkin on their doorstep signaling that non-food goodies and allergy-safe treats are available for trick-or-treaters. For the second year in a row, CVS is assisting in that effort by offering more than 100 convenient and affordable food-allergy safe items — many of which cost less than $5 — across more than 7,000 locations and on CVS.com, including fifty-nine stores in Rhode Island.

“We are thrilled to grow our partnership with CVS Pharmacy, a company that shares our dedication to inclusivity and safety,” says Sung Poblete, RN, PhD, CEO of FARE. “Last year was such a great success and, this year, together, we will reach even more families across the nation, spreading awareness about food allergies and creating a sense of belonging during cherished celebrations. By combining our efforts, we will make a meaningful difference in the lives of the 85 million Americans who are affected by food allergies and intolerances.”

Starting October 1, those looking to join the Teal Pumpkin Project will be able to identify local participating CVS locations on FARE’s interactive neighborhood map. The map will also feature homes and events across the U.S. that offer alternatives to traditional Halloween candy.
