In The Wake of Saturday’s Shooting, Local Businesses Need Our Help
Small businesses count on the holiday season to make ends meet, but recent tragedy means sales are taking a hit. We've compiled a list of some shops on the East Side to spend your dollar at.

The holiday season is normally a very busy time for local shops and restaurants. Not so this year, especially on the East Side of Providence along Hope Street and into Fox Point. On Saturday evening, many shops and restaurants on the East Side went into lockdown and sheltered in place when an alert was put out by city officials after the Brown University shooting. Many other local businesses shut their doors out of safety concern and refrained from opening the following day. While precautionary, the unplanned sudden closures also meant loss of business during a make-it-or-break-it time. Most shops and restaurants, even the ones that stayed open, are continuing to experience a very slow season. With the holidays upon us, we’ve compiled a list of some of the businesses closest to Brown University on the East Side that have been affected by slow sales. If you are out holiday shopping, or plan to shop online, please consider staying local.
