Newport Classical Music Festival has released its 2024 concert lineup, and classical music fans of all ages and tastes will want to take a look at the jam-packed schedule.

The three-week series, running July 4–21, features twenty-seven performances, including four by Grammy-nominated artists, an appearance by a star of HBO’s “The Gilded Age,” free family performances and the world premiere of a new piece celebrating unbreakable women. The festival also highlights diverse venues throughout Aquidneck Island and the East Bay, from seaside mansions to a concert in nature at the Norman Bird Sanctuary.

“Every summer, Director of Artistic Planning and Engagement Trevor Neal and I aspire to curate a festival that celebrates the legacy of Newport Classical and introduces our audience to the musicians who are shaping the future of classical music,” says Gillian Friedman Fox, executive director of the Newport Classical Music Festival. “This year, for our fifty-fifth anniversary, we continue to honor music executed at the highest level and performed in magical settings. We are proud to offer an experience unlike any other.”

Among the highlights of the 2024 event is the world premiere of Whispers from the Pirate Queen by Clarice Assad, this year’s Grammy-nominated composer-in-residence. The work celebrates the bond between Grace O’Malley, a sixteenth-century Irish pirate queen, and Anne Hutchinson, the Puritan leader who founded Portsmouth. The piece will be performed on Saturday, July 20, at 8 p.m. at the Breakers by mezzo-soprano Renée Rapier and PUBLIQuartet.
