Movies On the Block is Back This Week in Downtown Providence
The second screening at Grants Blocks in downtown Providence is Raising Arizona on July 9.
After a successful comeback last year, InDowncity is bringing back the popular outdoor film series “Movies on the Block” for another summer of fresh-air flicks. The 2026 season will screen one movie each month from June to September at Grant’s Block at 260 Westminster St. All films are set to begin at dusk and are free for the public to attend. Movie-goers are encouraged to bring their own blankets and chairs, as well as snacks for the event, or purchase food and drinks from surrounding businesses. Pizza strips and Kohlrabi Caesar salad are available to order on the Oberlin patio, while the restaurant’s onsite bar will offer cocktails, mocktails and other beverages (note: only to be enjoyed within Grant’s Block Park)
If you missed the first screening of NeverEnding Story back in June, don’t fret: there are still three more dates you can catch: Raising Arizona on Thursday, July 9; Clueless on Thursday, August, 13; and Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring on Thursday, September 10. Each movie screening is dependent on weather, so cancellations and rescheduling will be announced on the InDowncity website and Instagram page, @Indowncitypvd. The free film screenings are sponsored by InDowncity, the downtown small business community, and Cornish Associates.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive by bike, foot or public transportation due to limited parking availability. Anyone planning on driving should plan to park on city streets or in nearby parking lots. ANd be sure to arrive early to ensure a prime viewing spot!
