Kayak on the Providence River This Weekend
Paddle through Providence by kayak with an individual rental or on a guided tour.
Explore Providence from a new view, feel the sun on your face and work your arm muscles in an easy alt-workout. Individual kayak rentals are available through Providence Kayak now through October 6 and can be found docked in the WaterFire basin near the Providence Place Mall. You can discover the city at your own pace and paddle down the river to the new pedestrian bridge and back up to the basin, though against a small current. Besides the kayak, Providence Kayak also provides life vests for paddlers, and we suggest leaving your phone and any valuables you don’t want to get wet, at home!
If you prefer paddling with multiple people, take a guided tour where a guide will highlight architectural, nautical and historical points of interest. Plus, see osprey, blue crabs, swan, loons and the occasional great blue heron along the waterways. You will also pass under several bridges which are the docking space for boats and gondolas, plus a storage space for all of the wood used in WaterFire. The tours run about ninety minutes and cost $30 for a single kayak and $50 for tandem kayaks. There are two guided tour dates left for this summer including September 12 at 5:30 p.m. and September 14 at 8 a.m. For more information, visit providencekayak.com.
