House Lust: A Lake House with a Tin Roof and Treehouse is on the Market

The South County compound has been in the same family for generations.

This lakeside property in Matunuck Hills is a case study in the best of both worlds: rustic, but updated where it counts; remote, but a close drive to village life; waterfront, but near to beaches when you’re willing to suffer the masses.

“It’s one of those few generational-type properties that is full of character, tranquility, privacy and I think, more than anything else, it’s a retreat,” says John Krekorian of RE/MAX Flagship, who listed the Wash Pond property last week. “It’s a great answer for someone who doesn’t want to deal with parking at the beach and you still have the ability to fish and boat.”

The house, which sits at the end of a long gravel road, has a “rustic, camp house feel,” says Krekorian, but recent renovations to the kitchen and baths make it livable year-round. (Not to mention the super private bathtub room with a treetop view — a perk for weary parents, no matter the season.)

Krekorian sees a young family or grandparents investing in this property, which boasts gardens and a two-level treehouse with wrap-around porch. Below the treehouse, he says, is enough space for a barn or studio. The property also has a private dock to the kettle pond, “twenty-five to thirty feet deep and clear to the bottom, with plenty of fish.”

It’s a special place, Krekorian says, adding, “I can’t think of a better place to spend the summer.”
