Explore Bristol’s Abundant History at the 2024 House Tour
The annual Bristol Historical & Preservation Society House Tour takes place this Saturday, where viewers can admire and learn about twelve of Bristol’s historic houses.
History and architect enthusiasts, rejoice! The Bristol Historical & Preservation Society will host its annual House Tour this Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You’ll have the opportunity to walk around landmark structures in Bristol whose age and style date back 300 years.
“House Tour 2024 participants can expect to visit twelve private homes that show off Bristol’s impressive historic architecture,” says Janie Dauterive, co-chair of the BH&PS. Co-Chair Larry Verria adds, “We are grateful to all our House Tour 2024 homeowners for opening their homes so that the public can learn more about Bristol’s impressive architectural history.”
While beloved favorites will be in the exhibition, this tour will feature new houses such as the DeWolf-Guiteras House. Originally built in Greek Revival Style, this house was remodeled by its owners Ramon and Elizabeth Guiteras using a Stick Style. Today, this house serves as a living example of how historic homes can adapt to meet the changing needs of their owners and time periods.
Ticket holders will also be pleased to tour the National Historic Landmark Joseph Reynolds House, also known as the “Lafayette House.” Aside from being the second oldest structure in Bristol and the oldest known three-story wooden house in New England, this structure is where Marquis de Lafayette based his Revolutionary War headquarters in 1772.
Do not miss the opportunity to get lost in the rich history Bristol has to offer and rest assured you will not run out of energy during the tour, as a shuttle will keep you moving throughout the day. Tickets for the House Tour 2024 will be sold the day of the tour for $55 for nonmembers/$45 for society members. Advance tickets are $45 for nonmembers/$35 for members. You can purchase tickets and find more information on the society’s website: bhpsri.org.
