50 Cent, Christie Brinkley and more Come Out to Martha Stewart’s Newest Restaurant Opening, The Bedford
The restaurant inspired by Stewart's 1925 farmhouse opens its second location at Foxwoods Resort Casino.
Famed lifestyle personality and entrepreneur Martha Stewart adds another notch to her already impressively decorated belt with the Foxwoods Resort Casino opening of her restaurant The Bedford. The Bedford, inspired by Stewart’s 1925 farmhouse, opened its first location in 2022 in Las Vegas. The Bedford’s future home at Foxwoods was a collaboration years in the making.
“Around late 2022 we were coming out of the pandemic and figuring out what was next for us and how we were going to make this resort even more exciting,” says Foxwoods CEO Jason Guyot. “We wanted to partner with not just chefs, but brands. Talking with Martha and her team, we knew it was going to be a big undertaking for us, but we did it. Here we are today and I’m so proud of our team.”
For Stewart, the decision to bring her restaurant to Foxwoods stemmed from her fascination with Native American tribes. Stewart’s hometown of Nutley New Jersey is home of the Lenni Lenape Indigenous group, and she grew up learning about Native American history. Once she moved to Maine, she became acquainted with the tribes there, even cooking for the chiefs. During the ribbon cutting event on Friday, members of the Pequot tribe performed in a drum circle, with youth tribal members performing dances.
“I love the lore of the Native Americans and their culture, so having the restaurant here means a lot to me” says Stewart.
The restaurant is in The Grand Pequot Tower and seats 204 guests. The inside is bright and airy, with white marbled floors and minimalist seating and tables aiding in the elegant atmosphere. Wall decor features black and white photos of Stewart during her modeling days. Towards the back of the restaurant is an open kitchen where guests can see the restaurants chefs intentionally making every dish.
To the right of the front door when first walking in is a more private dining area called the green room, which is a replica of the green room in Stewarts 1925 farmhouse. The room features two areas with looped video of an outdoor landscape, with Stewart riding by every so often on a horse. Painted a beautifully vibrant green, which Stewart says comes from Kyoto green tea in Japan, the space, though taking a lot of effort, has Stewarts stamp of approval.
“We don’t have a green room in Las Vegas; we have a brown room. I like the green room better.” Says Stewart. “I had these exact same tables. You all did a great job.”
The Bedford features breakfast, lunch and dinner menu options. Breakfast includes items such as eggs benedict, steak and eggs and yogurt parfait; the lunch and dinner menus are very similar, both featuring raw bar options, honey mustard salmon and Stewart’s favorite, Big Martha’s Pierogies and the smashed baked potato.
“I’m of Polish heritage and that’s my mom’s recipe,” says Stewart of the pierogies. “When I first bought my house in Maine, I went up to Aroostook County where they grow those big oval baking potatoes. The farmers there said, to bake a potato, you smash it before you eat it because it breaks up all the fibers. We perfected the smashing and then you fill it with butter, crème fraiche and caviar and it’s really good.”
The restaurant prioritizes produce from local farms in the Connecticut and New England area, with Stewart herself saying that if she has an overabundance of produce on her farm, she’ll bring it to the restaurant. An elongated bar along the left side of the restaurant offers fun twists on classics like the Martha-tini, made with Zubrówska Bison Grass Vodka, dry vermouth and a lemon twist and the Classic Martha-rita, made with Casa Dragones blanco tequila, Cointreau, fresh lime juice with a pink sea salt rim.
Later on Friday after the ribbon cutting, a red carpet outside of The Bedford took place. Well known attendees included rapper 50 Cent, Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir, model Christie Brinkley, and writer Candace Bushnell, among others.
“You don’t see Martha for 15 minutes and she’s got a whole new restaurant,” says Brinkley with a laugh. “I have eaten at her home in the Hamptons, and it was delicious so I have very high hopes for the menu items tonight.”
The praise continued with Johnny Weir, also a 2026 Olympics commentator, who felt fortunate to be celebrating the evening with the culinary legend.
“As a little kid sitting in front of the TV at home, she taught me about elegance and style and grace. It’s just so wonderful that now I’m here and I can celebrate her big night,” says Weir, who recently starred on the hit reality series Traitors. “I think Martha would crush it on Traitors. I would hope she’d be a faithful, but I think she’d be amazing.”
This being The Bedford’s second location, there’s buzz surrounding whether a third is on the horizon. While Stewart is focused on perfecting what she’s recently created in Connecticut, the sky really is the limit for someone with her ambition. Despite that and the fact that Stewart was at one point the largest employer of graduates from Rhode Island School of Design, it seems safe to say Rhode Island won’t be seeing a Martha Stewart restaurant open in the smallest state any time soon.
“It’d be very hard to compete with some of Rhode Island’s fabulous restaurants,” says Stewart. “Newport would be lovely, but it’s just a quick drive to the Fox.”
The Bedford is open Monday – Sunday.
