February 14 may get most of the hype and attention this time of year, but we think it’s just as important, if not more, to celebrate the platonic relationships in our lives — there’s a reason Galentine’s Day comes first on the calendar, after all! And sure, “Gal” may be in the name, but this wholesome holiday is just as much for the guys, gays and theys, as well. Here are some of the local ways you can treat and show your bestie some much deserved love and appreciation this week.

Head to Pyxis in Providence on Friday, February 13, from 6:30–9 p.m., for an evening of community, connections and crafts. This cozy and creative event hosted by DyvynHER Collective and Delightful Intentions will honor love in all its forms, encouraging attendees to celebrate not just Galentine’s Day but also Black Love Day, Lupercalia and Valentine’s. While there, you can expect to connect and engage with the community, set intentions for the love you would like to experience this year, arrange your own floral bouquet and create Valentine’s Day paper dollies for local nursing home residents, plus more crafting opportunities (all necessary supplies will be provided). An altar will also be present to honor Black legends, ancestors and cultural lineage for Black History Month. Guests are invited (though not required) to bring a small, respectful offering of fresh fruit, a written note, crystals, spices, herbal blends, dried flowers, teas, coins or other symbolic token to honor the space. Functional mocktails such as ashwaganda, cacao and reishi, along with light bites, will be served while supplies last. Special occasion / dress to impress attire is encouraged — see graphic to the right for inspiration. Tickets are $27.77 a piece and can be purchased in advance here (note: tickets at the door will be limited). For updates, follow @dyvynhercollective on Instagram.
