There’s just no place like the Ocean State. Despite having an interesting (read: chaotic — I was there and can attest) show at the Vets in Providence during his 2023 tour, comedian and TikTok star Matt Rife is the latest celebrity to put down roots in Rhode Island.
Rife first revealed his new homeowner status on the “Are You Garbage?” podcast last month. Though Little Rhody wasn’t one of the top contenders during his initial search, he admitted that it ended up having exactly what he was looking for: a good comedy scene (see: Comedy Connection in East Providence, plus proximity to Boston), convenient travel (T.F. Green is never more than a stone’s throw away) and a decent price tag (the eighty-acre estate includes two buildings with four bedrooms each that he estimates was equal to the price of a “two bedroom with no yard in LA”).
And of course, the comedian couldn’t resist making a size joke, quipping that he “wanted equity in the state” with the sprawling property taking up “most of Rhode Island.”
Though it’s not clear exactly where the home — which he says is still under construction and will include a state-of-the-art sound stage — is located (nor would we want to dox him, anyway), Rife did say it isn’t far from the Conjuring House in Burrillville. Hopefully trespassers, either of this world or not, won’t be an issue like it occasionally has been for fellow famous Rhody transplant Taylor Swift.
If you’re unfamiliar with Rife and want to learn more about our newest neighbor, you can find some of his best crowd work highlights on TikTok, catch his comedy specials “Natural Selection” and “Lucid” on Netflix, or pick up his book, “Your Mom’s Gonna Love Me.”
