Providence Children’s Museum to Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with Interactive Play “MLK: Amazing Grace”
"The age-appropriate play provides children the opportunity to see Dr. King’s fight through a child’s eyes," says the museum's Executive Director.
Not sure what to do with the kiddos on their day off this coming Monday? Consider celebrating the reason they have it off in the first place by attending a live performance of MLK: Amazing Grace at the Providence Children’s Museum. In this youth-focused interactive play, the award-winning storytellers and actors, Rochel Coleman and Valerie Tutson, bring history to life by highlighting the accomplishments of Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement.
“These activities are a wonderful opportunity for all of us to learn, engage, and reflect. We are thrilled to be able to introduce new audiences to Dr. King’s life story and engage with our creative community,” says the museum’s Executive Director Caroline Payson. “This age-appropriate play provides children the opportunity to see Dr. King’s fight through a child’s eyes – they can bring his lessons into their worlds. We each have a role to play.”
The museum will host two performances of the play on Monday, January 20 at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively. Registration is required for each and includes museum admission (regular discounts apply). A collection of children’s books and activities featuring Dr. King’s philosophy of nonviolence will also be shared through the museums’s social media channels.
“It’s an honor to bring the message of Dr. King to ‘be the best of whatever you are,’ to a new generation of children. Each of them will decide what they will do to create a united world,” says Coleman. “His message resonates if you are 1 or 100.”
