House Lust: A Pink Victorian on a Winding Country Road with Tons of Space

The Queen Anne-style house was built with family life in mind (and, bonus: central air).

Original Victorians are great. Love ’em. I want to buy all of ’em. Except in summer, when just about anything with AC — anything! — beats out big bay windows and ornate balustrades. No contest.

That’s where this pink Victorian reproduction, in the woods of nearby Thompson, Connecticut, shines. Built in 1990 and designed by the homeowners, it offers the romance of the American Queen Anne alongside the trappings of modern life, including central air. (In the cooler months, a pellet stove adds extra warmth. Imagine cozying up by the fire with the kids after a night of trick or treating; I can see it too.)

Vivian Kozey, who listed the property with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, says the house was a labor of love for her seller, who raised her kids here and, now that they’re grown, is downsizing to a place in Maine. Those murals in the kitchen and hallways — Bambi, too? She handpainted them herself. The seller also incorporated period-appropriate fixtures including the antique fireplace mantle, glass doorknobs, built-in bookcases, stained glass windows and the massive entry door.

The property, Kozey says, is about five and a half acres set on a winding country road. The homeowners kept bees and chickens, and a couple of outbuildings — including a playhouse and big garage — add more potential living space. It feels secluded, says Kozey, but it’s close to the interstate and minutes from the state line.

“It would be a great place to raise a family,” she says.
