Iggy’s Doughboys and Chowder House

This iconic Rhody tradition is the ideal spot for meals with family and friends. Iggy’s surfaced on Oakland Beach in 1989 and quickly captured the hearts of Rhode Islanders. Created by entrepreneur Gaetano Gravino and his wife, Sally, the seaside restaurant was renowned for its red chowder, made with Sally’s own secret recipe. It was Gravino’s son, David, the creator of the Iggy’s name, who took on the business after his father’s passing and built it into the beloved Ocean State icon that it is today. Beach goers and seafood fans alike flock for the clam cakes dipped into creamy clam chowder followed by pillowy doughboys sweet with powdered sugar. The Oakland Beach location welcomes customers year-round with piping bowls of chowder. If you’d rather make clam cakes or fish and chips at home with the family, purchase the signature fritter and cake mix or the breading mix online.
