Gardiner Provisions is a new Coffee Bar and Bakeshop in Newport
Expect French pastries from executive chef Miguel Somoza and coffee and espresso drinks made by “Director of Coffee” Drew Medeiros.
The families behind Newport’s luxe Gardiner House have expanded their brand to a new coffee shop and bakery, located right near the boutique hotel. Gardiner Provisions features an intimate coffee bar and bakery specializing in French pastries, now open daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m..
Located on Thames Street in the heart of historic Newport, Gardiner Provisions’ rotating menu highlights made-in-house sourdough and crowd-pleasing pastries. “We celebrate the art of baking with bright, fresh flavors and a coastal flair,” says executive chef Miguel Somoza. Menu favorites include pain au chocolat (chocolate croissant), and organic banana bread, along with original creations like “The Bomb,” a raspberry and cream cruffin finished with pecan-apricot glaze.
The coffee program also features a rotating menu, with various hot and cold beverage options, as well as expertly prepared espresso drinks. Gardiner Provisions creates housemade syrups in flavors like vanilla, ube and maple sea salt. Each blend is crafted by “Director of Coffee” Drew Medeiros, who gives care and attention to every cup.
Gardiner Provisions is a natural light-filled space with large pane windows, creating an inviting and welcoming vibe. The space also features a graphic patterned wall created by GP and J Baker, along with Kit Kemp, which adds depth and character to the dining room. The room also includes a large communal table at the center, inspiring community gathering and socializing, with no need to rush.
The coffee shop and bakery is the latest opening from the Gardiner House team. Located just a few steps from the twenty-one-room boutique hotel also on Thames Street, the bakery joins the hotel, its Studio Bar and Flora restaurant, all under the Gardiner House umbrella.
